Glowing Tissue Paper Lanterns
Add ambience and magic to your summer night~
great for outdoors, kids’ rooms or any room you want to add magic.
My daughter and her friend are selling these lanterns at the farmers market this week.
Summer evenings are cozy and lovely and making these lanterns is a fun project that is quickly gratifying once the sunsets. They are easy to make and offer great rewards.
You will need:
- A jar (we used ball jars)
- Tissue paper (ideally in a variety of colors)
- Mod Podge or glue mixed with water
- LED tea lights
- Copper wire – or any kind of metal wire
- A medium sized paint brush
- (optional: little fake flowers to fold in with the wire)
- Optional: scissors
Instructions
- Tear or cut tissue paper into small shapes and sizes – you can cut into specific shapes like circles, or tear off small pieces
- Dip the paint brush in the mod podge and glue pieces outside of the jar. My daughter and her friend opted to glue the tissue paper inside the jar.
- Once they completed gluing the pieces all around the jar, they took the metal wire about looped it around the top of the ball jar many times, cutting the piece off and twisting the end around the wire already looped around the jar.
- They then made a handle with another piece of wire, which they attached to the wire that was looped around the jar.
- If you want to insert little flowers or some other fun decoration into the wire, feel free.
- Illuminate! Insert the candle into the jar, obviously using LED if you have chosen to tissue paper the inside of the jar and not the outside of the jar.
